TALBOT LIBRARY AND MUSEUM BRICK PROJECT As part of the Springtown Schoolhouse renovation project in Colcord, Oklahoma, the Talbot Library and Museum have paving bricks available to honor family members, friends, special events, businesses, etc. The bricks can be engraved with 3 or 4 lines of text, depending on the size of letters selected. They will be displayed in the walkway connecting the Talbot Library and Museum and the historic Springtown Schoolhouse. The cost of each paver is $75.00. ROBERT “BOB” BAKER, COLCORD, OKLAHOMA, TO BE HONORED WITH STATEWIDE AWARD The Oklahoma Museums Association has announced the winners of its 2008 Annual Awards Program. The awards recognize outstanding achievement by museums and individuals throughout the state during the past year. Award categories include exhibitions, promotional piece, publication, web site, newsletters, conservation projects and education programs. The competition is divided into four budget categories. In addition, certificates of recognition honor the contributions of an individual, group or business to Oklahoma museums or a specific museum or community. Robert ”Bob” Baker, Colcord, Oklahoma, will be recognized and receive a Certificate of Recognition for his outstanding Volunteer work for the Talbot Library and Museum, Colcord, Oklahoma. He has spent the last two years working on restoration of the historic one room Springtown School moved on to Talbot’s property in 2006, completed as an Oklahoma Centennial Project in April, 2008. Bob continues to be a valued member of Talbot’s Board of Trustees, and also contributes many hours of labor to restoration and maintenance of another historic building in the area, the Chamberlain Schoolhouse/Community Building. He is indeed a Valued Volunteer and so deserving of this statewide recognition. Award recipients will be honored at a luncheon on September 26 at the Bartlesville Community Center at noon. The luncheon is part of the Oklahoma Museums Association’s annual statewide conference. MISSION STATEMENT The Talbot Library & Museum, Colcord, Delaware County, Oklahoma was established by Virgil and Avis Talbot in 1987 as a free museum and library available for research of the area and local and Native American history. It is a (501-C-3)non-profit facility operated by a Board of Trustees. The Board is dedicated to managing this valuable resource in a professional manner. The Talbot Library & Museum is organized to own, possess and operate the Talbot Library and Museum for the use and benefit of the community, its citizens and all others who are interested, for educational and historical purposes. The Talbot Library and Museum specializes in historical and genealogical research material of Northeast Oklahoma, Northwest Arkansas, and Cherokee Territory. The facility also publishes a quarterly “T.L. & M. Genealogy” and is home to the “Goingsnake Messenger” quarterly. The Library & Museum operates solely on contributions and sales of Book Store and gift shop items. Its goal is to “Preserve a Bit of History”. |
